“…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!”  - 2 Peter 3:18

One of the commitments you will be asked to make for Vision 20/20 is that of intentional spiritual growth.  If we are to be prepared to reach our community and the world for Christ, each of us must focus first on a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.  We must grow in our knowledge of the Bible.  We must grow in our understanding of Christ’s love.  We must grow in our fellowship and accountability with each other, and we must grow in our desire to tell others about the difference God makes in our lives.

Five areas of emphasis will guide our efforts to grow maturing believers into deeper relationships with Christ and one another.  Our goal is to have 85% of our active membership committed to growing in their faith in 2014 and beyond.

Spend time regularly reading God’s Word

Commit to reading the Bible in its entirirty during 2014.  Reading guides, chronological Bibles and other materials will be availabe in the Worship Center Lobby to help you develop a reading plan that works best for you.  A few digital resources will also be available online.

Memorize one relevant scripture passage each month in 2014

A Scripture Memory Guide is included in the Vision 20/20 Packet with a suggested memory verse for each month.  Some may prefer to select their own Scripture passages relevant to current needs.  The goal is to learn one passage a month to help you in your spiritual journey.

Get connected in at least one Small Group

If you aren’t actively involved in a Sunday morning LIfe Group, find one that fits you best and get plugged in.  If you aren’t sure which group to join, consider being a part of a new Sunday Life Group beginning in January which will use Reading God’s Story, A Chronological Daily Bible as its curriculum.

There are also many Weekday Bible Study groups offered at various times throughout the week.  Each class uses a different curriculum, giving
you options for study topics.

Start and end each day in prayer

A Vision 20/20 Prayer Guide is included in this packet.  The ACTS prayer guide (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving & Supplication) is also a good tool.  Be intentional in your time with God and develop a growing prayer life.

Be an intentional witness for Jesus Christ

Openly talk about your faith with others, invite a friend to church and be a positiive influence for others in your daily life.  A new class will be available for those wanting to learn more about being an effective witness.

“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’” - Malachi 3:10

The second commitment you will be asked to consider is to help us meet FBC’s two-part stewardship goal.  The first part of the goal is to meet or exceed the 2014 budget (Ministry Action Plan–MAP) by being 100% faithful with tithes and offerings throughout the year.  The second part of the stewardship goal is to involve at least 75% of our church membership in intentional giving to retire all of our church indebtedness by the year 2020.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

The third commitment you will be asked to consider is to become involved with missions and evangelism efforts that help grow the Kingdom.  Our goal is to have 85% of our active membership directly involved and participating in at least one local, state, national or international mission effort every year by the year 2020.  For 2014, our goal is to involve a minimum of 310 members in at least one mission effort during the year.
